Song of Remorse — St. Peter's Denial of Jesus

Music and lyrics by James Ralph Boyd

Piano sheet music available upon request at jamesralphb6@icloud.com.

This music video memorializes St. Peter's anguish after he denied Jesus three times. "Jesus turned and looked at Peter, and Peter remembered the predictions of the Lord" (Luke 22:61): "Simon, Simon, behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat ... I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me" (Luke 22:34).

This music video indicates that Jesus was scourged "endlessly," based upon the Blessed Mother’s revelations in 1667 to the Venerable Mary of Agreda that six Roman torturers, at the order of Pontius Pilate, scourged Jesus 5,115 times. (See Agreda's book entitled Mystical City of God (English translation), “The Transfixion" (Volume III) at paragraphs 628 and 629).

I asked Google AI to calculate how long it would have taken for these six Roman executioners to scourge Jesus, based on (1) paragraphs 628 and 629 in the third volume of Venerable Mary of Agreda’s book, The Mystical City of God; (2) my assumption that each executioner could exact one scourge every five seconds; and (3) the scenario of paragraph 628 that the executioners worked in pairs, two at a time, with the pairs rotating. This means only two executioners were active at any given moment. The answer: 3 Hours and 35 Minutes.

Lyrics

My Lord, My Lord,

My Lord, My Lord,

I did not see what they do to You.

I did not want to believe that they would kill You now.

My Lord, I did not believe Your Words when You said that they’d scourge You endlessly.

My Lord, Satan sifted me like wheat when I denied You three times.

Three times, three times, three times, I denied I knew You.

He sifted me like wheat when I denied You today, when You — You died.

My Lord, will You forgive me now that I’ve cried tonight because I decried You?

My Lord, I am so sorry.

Will You, will You forgive, forgive me, forgive me?

Please forgive me.
